Writing marketing emails people actually read

Email is still one of the most cost-effective ways to reach a professional audience. But their inboxes are full. A few simple habits make your emails more likely to be opened and read.

01Clean the recipient list first

Wrong or inactive addresses cause many bounces and hurt your sender reputation. Emails sent to a clean list are more likely to reach the inbox.

02Honest, specific subject lines

Say what the reader will get, such as "Webinar invitation: updates in diabetes therapy, Wednesday 7:30 PM". An overpromising subject may be opened once, but won’t be trusted again.

03One email, one call to action

Decide on one thing you want the reader to do: register, read, or reply. Too many buttons and readers do nothing.

04Tailor to the recipient

Group recipients by interest or profession, then send relevant content. A relevant email is valued more than a frequent one.

05Learn from the results

Watch open, click, and unsubscribe rates. Test one change at a time, such as send time or subject line, so you know what made the difference.
