Why KPIs should be agreed before a project starts
Many digital projects finish on time but are still seen as failures, because each party had a different picture of "success". Agreeing KPIs before the project starts is the simplest way to prevent that.

01KPIs align expectations
When KPIs are written together, everyone, from management to the delivery team and the technology partner, sees the same target. The discussion moves from "I think" to "the data shows".
02Choose few, but meaningful
Three to five KPIs are usually enough. Too many measures cost the team its focus, and most of them never get looked at.
03Define how to calculate them
"Active users" can be counted in many ways. Agree on the definition, the data source, and how often it is measured.
04Prepare the baseline
To judge progress, you need to know the starting point. Measure where things stand before the project begins, so change can be compared fairly.
05Review regularly
KPIs are not just for the final report. Review them throughout the project so you can adjust course before it is too late.
